How to do without a refrigerator in summer

A simple fixture that is done in 15 minutes. Water is poured into a basin and a bucket of food is placed. The bucket is covered with a sealed lid. A fabric made of natural materials is thrown over it, which absorbs water well. Kitchen towels are suitable. The ends of the fabric should be in water.

Water will be absorbed into the towel and evaporate. So she takes heat from the air and from the bucket. Due to this, the temperature of the water will not rise above the temperature of its evaporation (which is called the dew point). Typically, the difference between the dew point and the outdoor temperature is 10 degrees.

Cooler bag

A universal option for giving, home or picnics and trips to the countryside. The stores sell refrigerated bags and thermal bags. The second option does not provide for the cooling of products; it only preserves their temperature. For additional cooling, a couple of bottles of frozen water can be thrown into a thermal bag. This will extend the shelf life of cold foods by 5-6 hours.

The cooler bag looks like a big bag with a clasp on top and handles.The outer and inner layers are made of fabric that does not transmit light and moisture. Between them is a thermal insulation made of foam material.

But the main element of the bag are cold batteries. For a summer bag, their optimal amount is 4-5 pieces. Home use will require more. Batteries can be gel, liquid, crystalline. It is important that it is convenient to cool them on time.

Summer food storage without a refrigerator

Keep food fresh in the apartment,without cellars and wells, more difficult. You can use the following tips:

  • Cheese, butter wrapped in paper soaked in salt water. Oil can also be stored in a container with salt water. In this way, cheese and butter can be kept fresh for 2-3 days.
  • Milk you can boil the old fashioned way by adding a pinch of soda and pour into a ceramic or glass jar. The jar is lowered into a bucket of water and, on the principle of an atmospheric refrigerator, is covered with a rag.
  • Fish after gutting, rub with salt and wrap in parchment. Thus, it will remain a couple of days in the most cool place.
  • Meat best dried or wilted. For this, a piece is greased, wrapped in paper and hung out in cool. Another option: lower the meat for several seconds in boiling water or fry in oil on all sides only the top layer.

If you have to live without a refrigerator for a long time, you should reconsider food and purchase of products. It is better to buy all perishable products for 1-2 days to immediately eat. And in the summer, when a lot of vegetables and fruits are sold, a small unloading diet on vegetable dishes will only benefit.
