How to connect a mouse to a laptop

Despite the fact that the mouse is not a mandatory attribute in the kit with a laptop, since the touchpad successfully performs the same functions, many users agree that it is much more convenient with it. This is especially true for graphic designers and fans of computer games. The mouse is inexpensive and easy to connect and install, usually without the need for additional devices.

How to connect a wired mouse to a laptop

To do this, there is a USB port in the laptop, to which the mouse is connected as well as a flash drive, phone data cable, etc.

REFERENCE! Some users use older models with a PS / 2 connector, for which you need to additionally purchase a USB adapter with an appropriate input.

A few seconds after the connection, the installation of drivers automatically starts. As a rule, it does not last long, so all you have to do is wait for it to finish. Most often, such an installation occurs only once, at the first connection, in the future it will not be required, since all the necessary components are already loaded.

ATTENTION! If the laser LED on the mouse works and the cursor is stationary, restarting the laptop may help. If this doesn’t work, try connecting the device to another USB port.

Such a device is much more convenient and mobile both in use and during transportation. According to the principle of communication with a laptop, it can be:

  • adapter - the only drawback of such a mouse is that it only works on batteries that need to be regularly charged or bought new ones;
  • bluetooth - this method is much more convenient, since it frees up the USB port.

Via adapter

An adapter is a small transmitter that resembles a flash drive that connects to a USB port in the same way. Just as in the case of a wired mouse, the first time you connect, the automatic driver installer is activated, and with further work after connecting, it will only be necessary to wait a few seconds, depending on the speed of the laptop. After that, move the mouse to check if the cursor moves.

It happens that complete with a wireless mouse there is an installation disk. Then work should begin by placing it in the drive and launching the installation program through "My Computer". The "Installation Wizard" opens, in which you need to go through several steps by clicking the "Next" button and, if necessary, changing the default settings, after which the components will start loading. At the end, you can get the disk and connect the adapter to the connector.

ATTENTION! Often there is a switch at the bottom of the mouse, so be sure to check that it is in the “On” position. On other models, there may be a “Connect” button, which is pressed after connecting to a laptop to establish a connection with it.

Sometimes there may be no necessary driver, and in this case, the program may offer to download it from the Internet. Accordingly, this will require a connection.

If you did everything right, but the mouse still does not work, try the following options:

  • change the battery (at the same time, pay attention to the correct polarity);
  • reconnect the adapter;
  • check the display of the new device in the manager, in the "HID Devices" section, its name should contain the name of the mouse model;
  • connect to another computer.

Via bluetooth

In order to connect such a mouse to a laptop, go along the path “My Computer” - “Properties” - “Device Manager” - “Bluetooth Radio Modules”. Right-click on the required module and select "Enable".

Next, turn on the mouse and go along the path "Start" - "Control Panel" - "Add Device". Windows will search for new devices, including a mouse. After that, you just have to click the "Next" button in the installer until all the necessary drivers are loaded. Now you just have to wait until the message “Driver installation for the device is completed successfully” appears, after which you can use the mouse.
