What is the name of a computer mouse

A special manipulator for a computer, which was invented back in 1968, was commonly called the "mouse". This name over the years of use of the device is firmly entrenched in it. Few users think about how the "mouse" is actually called and why this name is attached to it.

The development of the world's first mouse was worked by NASA employees. It was invented by one of her employees, Douglas Engelbart.

The first device was a wooden structure, equipped with the necessary boards and a wire, with which it was connected to a personal computer. Due to the fact that it looked like a gray rodent, the device received the nickname mouse. After some time, he came up with the decryption: Manually Operated User Encoder, which translates as - a means by which the user can manually engage in signal encoding. The invention presented by Engelbart is now in the Museum of the Mouse.

Further development of the device in 1972 took up the company XEROX. The product began to take on a shape similar to modern device models. Instead of two bulky wheels, the XEROX model had one.

The resulting product is not widespread, as it was very unreliable and at the same time had a high cost.

REFERENCE! A great contribution to the development of the manipulator was made by Steve Jobs. He decided to equip Apple computers with additional devices that would make work for a PC comfortable and inexpensive at the same time. The success of Apple impressed Microsoft, which also took up the development, improvement and production of computer mice.

Thus, in the mid-1990s, models familiar to users came to the market.

The device of a modern computer is already hard to imagine without a mouse. It greatly facilitates the work and makes it much more comfortable. Now there are a large number of diverse models, which have a different design and purpose.

Types of mice:

  1. Mechanical These were the first models of the manipulator. The device is equipped with a rubberized wheel sliding on the surface. The ball drives the rollers that transmit the signal to the sensors. The wheel was a weak link in the design. It was often dusted and polluted. This led to the fact that his work became fuzzy. Also, such products could not work without computer mats.
  2. Optical Such models appeared after mechanical ones. Instead of a ball, these products use a diode sensor. It reads the necessary information and transfers it to special sensors. They process information, after which it arrives on a personal computer. Now it is the most popular option. Mice provide high speed, read information when working on any surface, can have a different shape and number of buttons on the case. There are wired and wireless devices.
  3. Laser The next stage in the development of a computer manipulator. A laser is used to read information. Now devices with this design are the fastest and most accurate. They can work on any surface. Due to its characteristics, such models are very popular among gamers. Such a manipulator may have additional buttons on the case that are programmed using special utilities. Since the wireless connection method does not provide the necessary accuracy, laser mice are connected only using a USB cable.
  4. Trackball A rather unusual device, in fact, the mouse backwards. On its upper side is a large wheel with which control is carried out. Otherwise, everything is like an optical version. Products are not very popular. On the one hand, they significantly reduce the load on the wrist joint, on the other hand, using the buttons located on the trackball case is rather inconvenient to use.
  5. Induction. Wireless version of the product, which requires a special mat connected to a PC. The product receives power from the mat, therefore it does not require batteries and accumulators. The device has a very high accuracy and speed. Despite this, such manipulators are not popular, since they cannot be carried and are quite expensive.
  6. Gyroscopic. It requires absolutely no surface for operation. The design of the device has a gyroscope that responds to the position of the product in space. A little practice is needed to operate the device. Due to the high cost, it is not particularly popular.
  7. Sensory. Apple know-how. They removed all the buttons and the wheel on the gadget, equipping it with a touch surface. All control is carried out using gestures. This option is mainly used with other Apple products.

The manipulators are also divided by the connection method:

  1. Wired. Connect to a computer using a USB or PS / 2 cable. This connection option provides fast and accurate operation.
  2. Wireless This type is most often used when working with a laptop, since the product eliminates wires and provides the necessary mobility. By cons include: the need for charging and not high enough speed, compared with the wired version.

To make work at the computer comfortable, it is important to choose the right device.

When choosing the most suitable option, you should pay attention to the following:

  1. Destination. Some mice must have additional features. For example, gaming devices should work quickly and have additional control buttons.
  2. Type of connection. For a laptop, wireless mini mice are the preferred option. They are compact and easy to use.
  3. Design. The product should have good ergonomics and lie comfortably in your hand.

When buying a device, you need to determine exactly what it will be used for, while not forgetting about convenience. A correctly selected mouse will provide comfortable work for a long time.
