What is the difference between a monitor and a TV

Currently, technologies tend to mix with each other, forming modern unique devices that have the best parameters among their competitors. This happened with phones that took touch screens and multifunctionality from the PDA of that time. The same thing happens with monitors, which at the moment are becoming more functional, gradually turning into TVs in terms of the number of options. Both devices are currently interchangeable, and it is not difficult for any user to connect a TV instead of a monitor, and instead of a TV device, a computer screen.

What is a monitor?

A monitor is a device that is required to play an image. The main difference between this screen and the TV device is the lack of a built-in tuner that allows you to process various kinds of signals. These built-in tuners are identified by the letters DVB and generally come in several flavors.

  1. DVB - T for processing terrestrial TV signal
  2. DVB - C for cable TV processing
  3. DVB - S for processing satellite TV.

Even the most ordinary TV has either one or several modules that allow you to process and decode incoming signals. The screens do not have such modules, and in order to replace the TV with this device, you will need an additional console or receiver that will process the image.

What is a TV?

A television is a device that provides the reception, processing and display of images on the screen, as well as the processing and playback of audio, using the speaker system.

The main difference between the TV and the computer screen is the presence of decoding modules of various kinds of signals, both analog and digital. Another design feature of some TVs is the presence of an antenna that can receive signals without additional devices. This provides the ability to view TV channels, without connecting consoles or an extraneous receiver.

What is the difference between a TV and a computer monitor

In addition to fundamental differences in the design of the TV from the monitor, it also has some functionality. They should dwell in more detail.

  1. Screen diagonal. Comparing these devices, you can find that computer screens are inferior to TV screens in a variety of sizes. While the maximum size for monitors is only 35 ", some TV models have a diagonal of over 50". This is due to the peculiarity of the operation of these two devices. Since the computer screen is usually much closer to the user, it makes no sense to produce large models. At the same time, TVs are in no way limited in diagonal size.
  2. Image quality, screen frequency and delay time. Most users pay attention primarily to the size of the display, forgetting about such many important parameters as color reproduction and contrast. Obviously, when comparing two premium devices, the differences in the picture are difficult to detect, since the two displays will be as contrasting and bright as possible. At the same time, if you compare models from the middle or low price segment, you can find that TVs have a brighter picture than monitors.
  3. Screen frequency and delay time are an extremely important parameter for high-quality gaming. Modern monitors are made with an eye to the gaming needs of gamers, for this reason, such a parameter as the frame rate of such devices is much higher than that of TVs. The input lag is the average time it takes for the display to display the changes on the screen. This parameter is completely unimportant when watching a movie or sports, however, it becomes valuable in professional gaming. For monitors oriented primarily to players, this parameter is much lower than for televisions.
  4. Functionality. It's no secret that TVs are currently a multifunctional device that can satisfy almost any user need. This is ensured by a large number of various connectors, ranging from universal HDMI to composite and combined inputs, which are mainly used on rare consoles and devices. At the same time, monitors cannot boast of such a variety of functions. Even in order to replace the TV monitor, you will need to purchase a special receiver that will receive and process the signal. And also in some cases, you will need to purchase special adapters or adapters to ensure the stable operation of this receiver.

Monitor and TV are very similar devices, and at the same time they are very different. The need for one or another device is determined by the user's need for various functions. If this device is necessary for gaming, then a game monitor is better. If for watching a movie or graphic editing, then the favorite in this case will be TV.
