  • hacksaw and jigsaw (can be electric);
  • self-tapping screws;
  • screwdriver;
  • paint brush;
  • glue gun (building for wood);
  • sandpaper;
  • varnish and paint.

Of course, you need to cook boards. The main thing is that this material is thoroughly dried. Only in this case, the finished chest can last a long time and does not warp, as well as cracks will not appear on it.

How to make measurements and drawings

First you need to consider the design feature of the future product, as well as its decorative decoration. The cheapest option is to use pine in the manufacture. But at the same time, it is necessary to take into account the fact that pine, even at the slightest fluctuations in air humidity, will lose its original form. Inexpensive also get a chest of alder. In addition, its soft structure will simulate expensive wood species of tropical forests.

You also need to choose the place where you plan to put the finished chest. Then draw its outlines on paper to calculate the dimensions taking into account the thickness of the wood.

Having made a drawing of a chest on paper, then separate details are drawn. It is necessary to calculate the dimensions of each element, so that after sawing, their values are identical. Without a drawing prepared in advance, it is not worth starting sawing parts. Most likely, there will be wasted nerves and material due to mistakes made.

Note! You can cut out life-size paper parts and lay them out on a tree to make markings. Sawing can only be started at the end of this process.

Do-it-yourself outdoor wooden chest: step by step

After carefully measuring and sawing the wood details of the chest, you can begin to assemble it. First, the side walls are assembled together, and then the bottom is attached to them. At the end, a cover is mounted. It should be slightly smaller in width than the main part of the box.

The lid is assembled as follows: cut blanks are attached with screws to the sill, and the fasteners are covered with decorative corners, or putty is done in tone with wood.

Then fasten decorative loops. In this way, attach the upper and lower parts and make a mount for the castle. In order for the lid to be fixed in the open position and not to be thrown back strongly, latches are fixed on the inside.

Keep in mind! Forged metal elements are sold ready-made. Decorating them does not take much time, but the result will be excellent.

After all the parts are connected and the hinges are attached, you can proceed to the decor. It is recommended to sand the entire wooden surface to get rid of flaws and rounding the edges. Then the wooden parts are varnished. It is recommended to use special products that create the effect of antiquity. A clear topcoat is applied over it. In addition, you can use the decoration technique of carving, inlay or forging.
