How to age a mirror at home

An aged mirror is a fashionable detail of a stylish interior; it is at a premium. Using this item you can create a unique vintage style in the living room, hallway or bedroom. If you do not have such a detail in the interior, you can always create it yourself. A little effort, and a stylish accessory will already hang on your wall.

Tools and materials for working with a mirror

To create a vintage product, we need to prepare the following.

  • Paint remover.
  • Mirror.
  • Spray with paint of the required shade.
  • Hydrochloric acid.
  • Putty knife.
  • Paper and soft towel.
  • Clothing for protection: mask, tight gloves, glasses.
  • Newspaper.

Most of the work material can be bought at a hardware store. Acid is sold in reagent stores.

Important! To be able to work with paint and hydrochloric acid, choose a place to work with good ventilation.

How to age a mirror yourself

Before you begin the process of creating an aged product, find out what pattern and design you want to get in the end. It is best to sketch the paper on a piece of paper to see a clear example of future work.

Important! When working with chemicals, do not forget about safety measures, use special protective clothing.

Work algorithm

  • We prepare the working area. To do this, we lay the oilcloth on the table, and on top of the newspaper.
  • If the mirror surface is in the frame, you need to carefully remove it.
  • The back of the product is spray-painted.. Wait a couple of minutes, and then remove the coating with a small spatula. This must be done carefully so as not to damage the mirror surface.

Tip. If the paint does not cure well, apply another coat of spray.

  • Wipe the mirror part of the subject with a damp cloth or napkin. Use a dry cloth to remove excess fluid and lint from the mirror surface.
  • Gently pour hydrochloric acid into the jar through the funnel. Aerosol spray the mirror surface.
  • Trim the edges intensely to give a touch of effect.
  • Wipe off excess material with a dry cloth. Wipe the mirror surface with a damp towel.
    Cover the edges of the product with colored paint on top.
  • After the paint dries, you can safely insert a vintage mirror into the frame.

You can make a real work of art from an ordinary mirror with ease and at home. The main thing is to stock up with the necessary materials and patience.
