How to assemble a corner sofa

It is impossible to imagine a modern house or apartment without a sofa. It has become an indispensable interior item, as well as a place where the family gathers for evening communication and watching television programs. The most popular are corner sofas that fit well into the interior of the room. Buying a sofa for some becomes problematic due to the considerable cost. Its size or design is not always suitable for a particular room.

Advantages of assembling a corner sofa

If you have experience working with wood and carpentry tools, you can try to assemble a sofa with your own hands, which would allow:

  • significantly save the family budget;
  • make furniture according to your own sketch, with the right sizes and for a particular room;
  • choose material ourselves and take responsibility for the quality of the work;
  • significantly save room space due to the location in the corner;
  • to gain additional experience in the manufacture of furniture and its close-fitting;
  • Feel proud of your "work" in front of family and friends.

IMPORTANT! If there is no experience in the manufacture of furniture, it is better to choose a simple form of a corner sofa.

Preparatory stage

Any work begins with the preparation of materials, tools and drawing. For this we need the following materials:

  • timber 30 * 50, preferably from pine;
  • plywood of different thicknesses;
  • Fiberboard and particleboard;
  • screws (self-tapping screws);
  • synthetic winterizer;
  • foam rubber with a thickness of 20 and 40 mm;
  • batting;
  • carpentry glue (PVA glue);
  • upholstery fabric;
  • legs for the sofa;
  • mechanism for transforming the sofa.

Without tools, it is impossible to complete the work of assembling the sofa. Are needed:

  • hacksaw;
  • electric drill;
  • screwdriver;
  • furniture stapler;
  • sewing machine (for the manufacture of covers);
  • scissors (clerical knife);
  • roulette;
  • miter box;
  • sandpaper (file).

Without a detailed and accurate drawing (assembly diagrams), indicating all the necessary sizes, taking into account the peculiarities of the transformation mechanisms, the location of the sofa is impossible to make. The drawing will protect from many troubles in its manufacture:

  • will allow you to determine the volume and quantity of the acquisition of materials - you can calculate in advance their approximate cost;
  • helps to see all the details of the design: drawers, shelves, compartments.

Many drawings, with assembly steps, can be found on the Internet or in specialized literature, but they do not take into account the size of your planned installation location, so it is better to draw it yourself if you are familiar with drawing skills.

It is necessary to decide on the transformation mechanism of the corner sofa. There are two types of decomposition:

  1. "Dolphin". From below, from under the seat, the lower block extends, then it stretches toward itself and up - so it turns into a berth. This design is simple.
  2. Eurobook. You need to pull the seat over - then free up the space that is used as a box for linen. The back falls to this place. The mechanism is simple and lasts much longer than other mechanisms.

REFERENCE! Experienced craftsmen do not recommend purchasing expensive materials for the first, independent production of a sofa.

Putting a corner sofa

The entire amount of work on the manufacture and assembly can be divided into several stages:

  • frame manufacturing;
  • manufacturing of armrests of the side parts;
  • tight foam rubber;
  • upholstery;
  • assembly of the frame and armrests into a single unit.

Fabrication of the frame and side parts

The frame of the main part of the sofa (box) and side parts (armrests) are made strictly according to the drawing, using a beam, chipboard, fiberboard and plywood:

  1. Of the materials make blanks of the required size.
  2. With the help of screws (screws) they are connected to the desired frame (boxes, armrests).
  3. Check the diagonals of the frames. It is important that they are the same.
  4. The box of the main part of the sofa, designed for seating, is often used as a linen box. It can be either stationary or retractable and its bottom is made of fiberboard.
  5. The upper side of the seat should be more durable and made of plywood.
  6. Sharp edges and corners are cut off with a file or sandpaper before covering with foam rubber.
  7. Connect the frames of the box and armrests to the design of the sofa - if their design is the same. If the “Eurobook” mechanism is selected, it is made in separate sections (blocks) and connected to an integral structure using various brackets, already after tightening.

A beautiful, soft and comfortable sofa always has armrests on both sides. The armrests are often its decoration. The standard sizes of the armrests are: length 90 cm, width 20 cm, height 55 cm.

ATTENTION! When working, you need to screw the screws from the chipboard or fiberboard into the beam, and not vice versa, and the step of fastening the plywood to the beam should be at least 20 cm.

Foam upholstery and padding

The final and perhaps the most interesting stage in the assembly of the sofa. The furniture takes shape and it is already clear what came of it:

  1. Foam for a tight fitting is needed one-piece. From it, details of the desired shape are cut out and glued. For places where it is supposed to be places of sitting and lying, it is recommended to use foam rubber 10 cm thick, use thinner on the armrests.
  2. For upholstery, it is better to make patterns on a newspaper, checking with the dimensions on the drawing, with an allowance of 3-5 cm for seams.
  3. If a dense fabric is used for upholstery, which practically does not allow air to pass through, it is recommended to make holes in the plywood of the seats with a diameter of 2 cm, in increments of 30 cm.
  4. Each detail of the structure must be tightened separately, using glue and a furniture stapler.

IMPORTANT! Any fabric is stretched, this property must be taken into account when covering sleeping and sitting places. In the manufacturing process, you need to pull it with effort so that after prolonged use it does not frown.

The sofa is ready after painstaking and hard work. It meets your expectations and can be a source of pride.
