How to sew a canopy on a crib

In ancient times, the canopy was used as a hinged structure of fabric, which was hung over the throne. Since that time, young moms and dads from around the world use canopies to add more coziness and comfort to their babies. This element of cribs is so common that many do not even imagine a crib without it.

What material is better to sew a canopy

You can sew a canopy from almost any type of fabric. Most often, chintz is used for the base, which can be either a one-colored fabric or a printed pattern. For decoration, lace, multi-colored ribbons and others are used.

The canopy can additionally insulate the crib during cold weather, for this they use silk materials, satin and a bike.

During the warm period, these types of fabrics are used - these are:

  • fine linen fabrics;
  • chiffon fabrics;
  • tulle fabrics.

At the same time, the canopy can slightly reduce the overall level of surrounding noise, due to its absorption by the fabric, which will make it easier for the child to fall asleep and feel better.

What else may you need for tailoring

During the sewing process, you may encounter such a problem that some elements need to be glued with “hot” clamps. Is it safe for the health of the child? Not all brands of hot glue are safe enough for close contact with children. Manufacturers honestly warn about this - always read the adhesive label!

Recommended purchase special special safe “hot” glue in advance with no toxins and without harmful chemical elements, which will allow not only to make the canopy on your own, but also to use the glue in other ventures, ideas for the child.

How to sew a canopy on a crib with your own hands step by step

Sewing the canopy with your own hands is a simple task, and if you have at least minimal sewing skills, the task becomes even easier.

So let's get started:

Step 1. Prepare a pattern for sewing (pattern).

You can take a finished pattern or design it yourself. The second option is more time-consuming and complex. If you are new to this business, use the first option.

Step 2. Cut out all the elements from the fabric and apply additional marking lines and places for sewing.

It is better to make notes with a special pencil for sewing (sold in any sewing store or can be found in office supplies). Such a pencil is easily washed off with a small amount of water, which will make it easy to sew the canopy with your own hands, and it also does not get rubbed off at the touch of your fingers.

Step 3. Sew the edges of the items cut from the fabric by stitching on the sewing machine.

This way you can protect the fabric elements from mechanical damage and bring strength to the canopy.

Step 5. Join (sew) the fabric at the sewing sites.

Step 6. Add decorative elements and a curtain.

With decorative elements you can hide the stitching places and bring a pleasant aesthetic appearance to your project.

Step 7. Fasten the canopy over the bed.

To do this, you can use a special holder for awnings made of fabric or make it yourself from a rigid wire. Also, you can (depending on the project) simply fix the finished structure to the ceiling, using small cables, which will create a feeling of cloudiness over the bed.

The canopy is ready!

Features of sewing a canopy for the crib of a boy

For boys' cots, darker fabric tones are considered traditional. As they grow older, boys are more often played with toys in their crib. Therefore, it is better to use a canopy cloth with such patterns that will allow the boy to use them in games, which will further develop his creative abilities and stimulate him to learn about the world around him.

Features of sewing a canopy for the crib girls

Girls are princesses. From a very young age, they like to feel it. Try to emphasize by canopy that your girl is a princess who lives in a castle (only without fanaticism). Use plain, light colors of the fabric, with the use of bows, which can emphasize the tenderness and femininity of your little daughter.
