How to choose a heat gun

In the market of heating equipment, the leading positions are occupied by heat guns, which are used for heating residential and industrial-warehouse premises, garages, greenhouses, offices, retail halls, summer houses, etc. An air heater with an integrated fan quickly pumps warm air, which creates a comfortable microclimate even in severe frosts.

Manufacturers of heating devices produce several types of heat guns:

  1. Multi-fuel, including liquid fuel. The device is ideally suited for automotive services: the owner saves on space heating due to the use of drained engine oil. Such units operate for more than ten hours without a break.
  2. Gas heat guns. They are autonomous and stationary. Such equipment is widely used in the agricultural industry. A gas burner located inside the unit contributes to an even distribution of heat. A natural gas device consumes a small amount of electricity, which can save a lot of money.
  3. Electric heat guns are widely used both in everyday life and in production. Modern models are equipped with a spiral or tubular electric heater. The latter is characterized by a long service life. All such devices are equipped with an electric fan heater and a thermostat that maintains a constant temperature and prevents overheating.
  4. Infrared heat guns. Do not have a fan. Radiated heat raises the temperature of surrounding objects. The air warms up due to thermal return. Such devices are used during repair work for uniform drying of walls and ceilings.
  5. Diesel heat guns. They quickly heat the room and are used during construction work in the winter. Distinguish between models of direct and indirect heating. The power of diesel heat guns is greater than that of multi-fuel units.

IMPORTANT! Electric heat guns whose power exceeds five kilowatts should be connected to a three-phase power supply system.

Which heat gun to choose to solve a specific problem

A wide range of heating units makes it difficult to choose for a specific task. Which heater models are best for an apartment, and which device is best for a garage?

For heating a living room

When choosing a heating device for a house or apartment, it is necessary to take into account the area of the room, the properties of the building materials from which the walls were built (wood, brick), as well as the presence of thermal insulation. The best option is an electric heat gun.

Indirect heating guns should be purchased for living rooms. In such devices, the burner flame is isolated and the combustion products are discharged through the exhaust system. Indirect heating guns are safe for humans and pets.

ATTENTION! In a private house, a heat gun is simply irreplaceable, because with it you can not only warm up, but also dry the basement and cellar, get rid of mold.

For heating the warehouse

It is irrational to use electric appliances for heating hangars and storage rooms because of the high cost of electricity. When choosing a device should be based on the weather conditions in the region. For mild climates, gas guns are suitable; for climatic zones with harsh winters, a direct-fuel diesel-powered device is ideal.

Gun for the greenhouse

When creating greenhouse conditions for growing garden crops, summer residents prefer gas-fired heating units. Diesel or electric appliances are sometimes used. The main requirement is to install the device: the heat gun should be suspended from the roof of the greenhouse so that the injected warm air does not burn the leaves of the plants.

IMPORTANT! Thanks to the grid heater, rectangular-shaped guns do not dry the air in the room.

General criteria for the right choice of heat gun

What parameters should definitely pay attention to:

  1. Definition of power.A heating of 1 m² requires a hundred watts. It turns out that for a room of 100 m² a heating device with a capacity of at least 10 kilowatts is needed. For a more accurate calculation of power, the height of the ceilings and the number of windows and doors are taken into account.
  2. The presence of combustion products.Direct heating devices are suitable for outdoor construction sites. They are installed for rooms with a good ventilation system.
  3. Autonomous heat guns operate less than stationary ones.Stationary appliances are highly efficient. Despite the impressive size, they are considered more economical than miniature heating appliances.
  4. Security. The device case must be resistant to mechanical damage. Sensors that are triggered by overheating of the device are designed to prevent damage and fire. To increase the level of safety, manufacturers produce models that automatically turn off in the event of a rollover.
  5. Quiet mode of operation.A buzzing device that works for several hours in a row negatively affects a person’s well-being. The published noise level should be within reasonable limits. Units that during operation produce a noise level of less than 40 decibels do not create additional stress on the hearing aid.
  6. No suspicious odors. Some heaters, the design of which is dominated by plastic parts, exude an unpleasant chemical smell. Ceramic heaters are considered the safest.
  7. Easy installation and ease of use.For temporary heating of a house or apartment, it is better to choose models that do not require a chimney or ventilation system. It is enough to connect them to the power supply system.
  8. Compactness. Rectangular and cylindrical heating units take up less space than diesel or gas models. Another advantage of electrical appliances is their mobility.
