Repair the TV matrix cable

Matrix loop - a set of wires connecting the image forming board to the screen matrix. In general, this is a sensitive component of the TV, responsible for the normal operation of the matrix. Repair of the loop is carried out if it is damaged, which is accompanied by a number of defects. The main ones are: periodic or constant flickering, distorted image, ripples, stripes or spots.

How to repair a matrix cable

Failure can be accompanied by one of these defects or at the same time by all of the above.
You can restore normal operation in two ways: repair the matrix cable or replace it with a new one. The second method is simpler, but it can sometimes be difficult to put into practice. This is due to the fact that the line of manufactured TVs from each manufacturer is constantly updated.

At the same time, old models and accessories for them are discontinued. Repair is a more complicated way, requiring care and accuracy.

Physical damage

This type includes damage to the loop in the form of a break, oxidation of its contacts or surface mount elements. To determine the damage in the service centers, loop diagnostics are performed by the test method of all cores by a tester, multimeter, transformer or other device. In this case, the integrity of the wires and their insulation is determined.

Physical damage can occur due to abrasion of the wires due to bending, heating due to poor contact, or abrasion over a long period of time. A track with a damaged contact can be repaired by puncturing it in several places with a needle and filling the hole with conductive varnish. After drying the varnish, the damaged area is sealed with tape.

With more serious damage, the broken track is disconnected, the old insulation is washed off with acetone, the contacts are cleaned with a scalpel. Rosin is applied to the break points, the track is returned to the place and the contacts are soldered. For soldering, you can use an infrared soldering iron. In this case, the damaged area is cut out with scissors, the tracks are combined with each other and soldered. High heating temperature provides a tight joint.

Important! When soldering, it is necessary to ensure that jumpers do not form between the individual conductors.

The loop connector can oxidize, which leads to failure of the entire device. The oxidation of contacts occurs for various reasons, for example, due to the ingress of liquid on them. It is difficult to clean the connectors mechanically due to the thinness of the loop tracks. The contacts can be cleaned safely with any solvent applied to plain paper. After thoroughly rubbing the contacts on the impregnated paper, they are washed with a solvent and carefully cleaned with a brush.

Attention! In case of replacement or repair of the matrix, it is recommended to fix the cable near the connector with tape.

Distortion pictures

The image is distorted for several reasons: a malfunction of the matrix itself, damage to the cable, a malfunction of the video card. If the cable is damaged, a large number of multi-colored vertical stripes appear on the screen, randomly changing each other. When the TV is tilted slightly or when the cable is turned on again, the color scheme changes. White stripes become predominant, which is why this breakdown is called the "Northern Lights". Horizontal stripes appear in the middle of the screen, which are a sign of a malfunction of this particular device.

Reference! If stripes appear on the screen, it is recommended that you check the operation of the antenna. It can distort the input signal, causing a variety of interference.

Stains in the image

If the loop is faulty, large color spots may appear on the screen. They are distributed in one part of the screen or over its entire area. Spots periodically change color or retain it. If you tilt the TV or turn on the cable again, they may disappear or become deformed.

Light and dark spots appear when the TV's operating conditions are violated. When using wet wipes or aerosols to care for the screen, moisture can get on the cable, which leads to oxidation of the contacts.

Spots can be the cause of manufacturing defects. For example, if the matrix is installed unevenly, white flashes are formed in the corners.

How to disassemble the device

It is impossible to repair the matrix itself if the screen is cracked or broken. The cost of the new matrix is slightly lower than the cost of a new TV. You can change a failed device yourself, provided that you follow the steps of the step-by-step instructions clearly.

Reference! To carry out repairs, you need a strong magnifying device (microscope, magnifier or glasses with a magnifying lens).

Loop repair consists of several stages:

Step 1. Dismantling the housing.

Step 2. Inspection of the damaged loop.

Step 3. Detach it from the matrix and carefully remove it.

Step 4. Cleaning and degreasing of damaged contacts.

Step 5. Restoring contacts by soldering.

Step 6. Installing the loop and attaching to the matrix.

Step 7. Assembly of the housing.

Repair work requires clarity and maximum attention to avoid damage to the remaining thin tracks. The original form of the loop must be preserved in its original form. Even slight bending can lead to rupture of the conductors.

When disconnecting from the matrix, you can not rely on it, you can damage the motherboard. If possible, it is more advisable to change it to a new one due to the painstaking work on its repair.
