DIY changing table

The birth of a new family member is a very joyful and at the same time quite costly event. After all, a child is literally an expensive pleasure. A lot of things are necessary for a baby: a bed, a stroller, diapers and vests, bottles, as well as a changing table and a spacious chest of drawers. If you have carpentry experience, free time and the necessary materials, some parts of the interior can be made by yourself. For example, to assemble a changing table yourself.

Types of tables

Changing board. This is a soft board with sides, sheathed with waterproof material. It is very convenient to use, as it can be easily moved to the right place;
Whatnot. Frame made of various materials and equipped with drawers. They can be plastic, wooden or metal. The upper part of the whatnot is a soft surface sheathed with material;

Chest of drawers. A very convenient and practical piece of furniture. It is a small children's chest of drawers, on top of which a removable changing table is placed. The advantage of a chest of drawers is that you can use it for more than one year. True, it takes up quite a lot of space;

Hanging baby changing pad. A very practical option, not taking up much space. The table is attached to the wall and leans back at the right moments. Also on it there are several pockets for storing small things;

All tables are convenient to use and choose which one is necessary, based on personal preferences and the size of the room where it will be installed. The drawing is selected first.

Choose materials

Whatever version of the changing table is chosen, the materials for each option require almost the same.

For the frame, you need chipboard or MDF. Of course, natural wood would be better.

IMPORTANT! But, firstly, the tree is very heavy, and secondly - expensive;

• A soft board will also require chipboard or MDF;
• Primer, paint, paint, varnishes;
• Self-tapping screws, furniture corners, guides and other accessories. All this will need to be carefully hidden to avoid injuries in the baby;

When purchasing materials for manufacturing, you need to make sure of their quality. They must be safe, non-toxic, and free from unpleasant odors.

A soft mattress will also be needed. To make it, you will need:

• Material for stuffing: holofiber foam rubber or synthetic winterizer;
• Waterproof fabric. You can take a raincoat fabric, if there is none, then a medical oilcloth will do;
• Threads and needles;

You will also need tools:

• Electric jigsaw;
• Drill;
• Sandpaper;
• Screwdrivers;
• Grinding machine;

After all the necessary materials and tools have been prepared, you need to determine the size of the future table.

Determine the size

The most common are the hanging table and in the form of a pelenator, which is fixed on the surface of the chest of drawers. The first option is in demand, as it is very convenient and does not take up much space. The second is practical, in the future you can remove the table and use the chest of drawers for quite some time.

Little table - dresser

You can make a pelenator of absolutely any size, but the following sizes are considered the most optimal:

1. The countertop, which will be attached using grooves made in the sides - 805x785 mm;
2. The back wall - 772x100 mm;
3. Sides - 815x35 mm;

REFERENCE! Side panels should be in double quantity.

1. Front part - 815x35 mm;
2. Table legs - 600x40 mm. Legs in the future will be attached to the side walls;

These sizes can be changed, since most often this option is made tables based on the dimensions of the available furniture.

Hanging Folding Pelenator

The standard sizes for this type of tables are:

1. Width - 950 mm;
2. The height of the side panels is 100 mm;
3. Depth - 660 mm;

There will be two reasons, three sides.

For this version of the changing table, in addition to the basic materials, you should additionally purchase gas - elevators that are used in the manufacture of moving furniture parts. Gas - elevators will ensure a smooth lowering of the structure and protect against its possible spontaneous opening.

Such a table is often equipped with additional shelves. The size of the parts for the shelves is selected based on personal requirements.

It is necessary to fasten it on a strong wall, drywall is not suitable for this. The design in a suspended state must be fixed very well to support the weight of the baby.

Portable table

If a portable pelenator is made, then its dimensions are as follows:

• Base - 900x600 mm;
• Sides - 900x100 mm;
• The sides can be made only on the sides of the structure, but you can also make the headboard. Its dimensions will be - 600x100 mm;

Changing mat mattress

Sizes of a mattress for a changing table:

1. The width of the mattress depends on the size of the table itself and is equal to the width of the table plus the width of two pillows. For example, if the width is 600 mm and the height of the sides is 70 mm, the mattress will be 740 mm;
2. The height of the mattress is equal to the height of the sides;
3. The fabric must be taken with a margin of 50 mm on each side plus allowances for the seams;
4. If the table has a headboard, it must be done with a mattress. Their sizes should be equal;

Manufacturing instruction

Whatever version of the changing table is chosen, the manufacturing steps will be as follows:

• First you need to make a drawing, where all the details and their sizes will be indicated;
• The details of the table must be marked out, taking into account the required sizes. If some parts have rounded edges and there is no compass at hand, you can use a cup or plate of suitable diameter;
• Details are cut precisely to size;
• Next, you need to mark the places where there will be holes and fixtures;
• Then with a drill you need to drill all the necessary holes;

All through holes must be closed with plastic plugs to prevent injury to the baby.

It is necessary to assemble the structure, starting from attaching the sides to the base. Glue must be added to the mounting holes;
Next, the remaining parts are assembled, also with the addition of glue;

After all the parts are assembled, they must be pulled together with a clamp and left until the glue has completely dried.

IMPORTANT! Before the final assembly, all details of the future table must be thoroughly sanded to remove any burrs.

Finishing

After the design is assembled, it must be given the final appearance. If the parts are made of chipboard or MDF, this is not required. A solid wood product must be sanded, and then primed. After the primer has dried, the parts are painted and varnished.

Very often hanging tables are installed in the bathroom, where the humidity is quite high. Therefore, water-repellent materials must be used for staining.

Making a pelenator yourself is quite simple. The most important thing is to choose the appropriate option and correctly perform the drawing and subsequent assembly.
