What to do if the keyboard is flooded and the keys do not work

Computers, laptops, tablets have become an integral attribute of everyday life - both at work and at home. Sitting in front of the monitor, everyone repeatedly allowed himself to quench his thirst by drinking water, a cup of tea, juice or another invigorating drink. If liquid spills onto the keyboard, then the user in a panic starts wiping puddles from the surfaces of the buttons and wonders if the contacts will continue to work.

What to do if the computer keyboard is flooded

In the case when the liquid got on the buttons, the main thing that is necessary is to keep calm. The absence of panic will minimize the harm done to a computer attribute. A separate keyboard layout and autonomous connection will allow you to cope with the problem yourself, without resorting to the help of service centers.

Immediately after accidentally spilled water or other liquid gets on the buttons, perform the following actions:

1. Disconnect the keyboard from the computer. To do this, disconnect the USB or PS / 2 connectors of wired models, and with a wireless connection, office equipment is deprived of a power source. This is an incorrect way to disable it, but it will help to avoid giving incorrect commands that may come from a keyboard with shorted buttons.
2. Simultaneously with the shutdown, the attribute is turned over so that the buttons are at the bottom and left in this position for 1-2 hours. If a small amount of pure water is spilled, then such measures may be sufficient, and with a large number of sugary or fatty drinks, the elimination of the consequences must be continued.
3. After that, the buttons are photographed or remembered, and in the inverted position, the fixing screws are unscrewed.
4. Then carefully remove the cover. It should be easy to remove, if it is not, then check the cause and eliminate. A lot of effort cannot be used in this situation, since it is possible to damage the bottom cover of a computer accessory.
5. After that, the contact film is removed from the fasteners and separated from the board. Then remove the elastic elements and remove the keys themselves.
6. The disassembled components are thoroughly washed and then completely dried.
7. The board, film, rubber elements are not washed, but wiped with alcohol.
8. After complete drying, the keyboard is assembled in the reverse order: first the buttons, then the rubber contacts, the board, the film and the cover. All this is fixed, fixed properly and connected to the computer.

IMPORTANT! Some buttons are equipped with metal clips. Pull them out carefully so as not to break.

This method is suitable for the classic keyboard design, especially when the buttons no longer work. Modern flat models are not disassembled. Therefore, prophylaxis is used for them, in the form of shutdown and prolonged drying.

Actions when liquid gets on the laptop keyboard

The buttons of the laptop are mounted in the case, and if water has fallen on them, then to maintain operability, take the following measures:

• disconnect office equipment from the power supply and as soon as possible, pull out the battery;
• turn the laptop over to allow the liquid that has got inside to leak out of the case;
• keep the equipment upside down for 2-3 hours in a dry place;
• with the help of a hair dryer, direct the flow of warm air under the buttons without changing the position of the laptop.

It is advisable to increase the period of natural drying to 1-2 days. After that, the technique is turned on and checked. If the laptop does not turn on, you will have to use the service of the office equipment service, where specialists can put it in order.

When working with computer equipment, it is advisable not to resort to tea drinking or light snacks. This will eliminate the likelihood of liquid getting on the keyboard and extend its life.
