How to recycle parquet

Parquet wears out over time, loses its attractiveness, darkens. In order to update the coating, scouring is carried out - the old layer of varnish and the top layer of wood with all the darkened areas are removed. Irregularities are cleaned and varnished again. The result is a clean and beautiful floor that again pleases the eye. The process of hitching itself is quite complicated and time-consuming, but if you do all the work yourself, you can save a lot.

What are the ways of looping?

Before removing the top layer of wood, you need to assess the condition of the flooring. In some cases, hitching is simply not possible. For example:

  • the presence of large gaps between the slats;
  • parquet swollen;
  • there are large chips and holes;
  • there is damage due to insects.

If there is at least one of the above problems, restoration of the flooring is impossible - you have to completely replace it.

There are three ways to hover the parquet: using a special tool, a grinder, or using professional equipment.

The manual cycle is a blade fixed in a wooden handle. It is moistened in warm water and the top layer of the tree is removed. It is hard and long to work with cycles, but the process itself is almost silent and does not leave a lot of garbage. The tool is inexpensive, during the removal of wood small shavings are formed, which allows you to monitor the work and not remove the excess.

Some craftsmen remove the floor using a grinder. This method is not suitable for everyone because of a number of disadvantages:

  • the speed of the grinder must be manually adjusted;
  • it is difficult to remove a layer of wood at low speed;
  • at high speed, you need to monitor how much material is removed, it is quite difficult;
  • the grinder needs to be kept on weight parallel to the surface, this is inconvenient.

Thus, the most convenient and fastest way is to hire professional equipment for scraper rental. The machine works quite noisy, but all the work can be done in 1-2 days.

ATTENTION! For cleaning after work, you will need a special vacuum cleaner. The usual one will simply clog up with wood and garbage and fail. You also need to check the wiring - it must withstand voltage up to 2.8-3 kW.

Necessary tools

To quickly and easily perform a parquet hacking, you will need several tools:

  • parquet grinder;
  • grinder to work corners;
  • vacuum cleaner for industrial waste;
  • sandpaper;
  • putty and putty knife;
  • varnish and brush (you can roller);
  • tools for dismantling the coating.

For security, you will also need:

  • clothes made of durable and dense fabric;
  • mask (so that dust does not get into the respiratory tract);
  • glasses.

After preparing all the tools, you can proceed to the preliminary steps. It is worth knowing that it is impossible to loop only certain sections - the canvas needs to be cleaned evenly over the entire surface.

ATTENTION! Depending on the thickness of the plank, the number of pitches varies. Most often, for the entire period, restoration can be performed 5 times without harming the appearance of the parquet.

Preparation for hitching

From the room where it is planned to recycle the parquet, you need to take everything out. If you want to do without removing furniture, you should wrap it with a special stretch film and tape the corners well.

During work with the parquet, a lot of garbage and dust is released, it is very difficult to remove them from hard to reach places (crevices, corners). Therefore, it is best to endure all things or close them carefully.

Skirting boards are also best removed. If the parquet is damaged during dismantling of the skirting boards, you can leave them.

The floor must be carefully inspected - there should be no metal fasteners. They can damage the machine that will perform the loop. The floor needs to be washed and vacuumed; windows should be opened wide for a while.

Do-it-yourself parquet cycling: instructions

The process itself varies depending on the chosen method of work. In any case, you need to pay attention to the process of applying varnish - it is best to use a roller or a wide brush so that the coating layer is the most even and thin. No need to apply a lot of varnish - in the future this will complicate the process of re-cycling.

Using loops

Manual cycling is suitable for those who decide to save as much as possible on floor restoration. This process takes a lot of time and effort. The stages of looping are:

  • moisten a clean floor with warm water;
  • remove sharpened top with a sharpened scraper, moving from the center to the edges;
  • first, carry out cycles in one direction, and then back, move along the parquet fibers;
  • all cracks are putty;
  • at this stage, the floor surface is polished using rough sandpaper (it is most convenient to fix it on a wooden block and work);
  • thoroughly clean the floor, sweep away all the dust remaining after the tree, vacuum;
  • wash the floor with water (you can add a product for parquet);
  • apply a thin layer of varnish;
  • after the varnish has dried, go sandpaper again;
  • apply another thin coat of varnish.

ATTENTION! To remove the layer of wood as thin and even as possible, during the work you need to sharpen the manual cycle several times.

Cycle using a special machine

This type of looping will take less time than the previous one:

  • it is not necessary to wet the floor, but the floor must be clean, free of dust;
  • turn on and move the machine evenly, without stopping in one place;
  • each pass should be half the width of the drum;
  • change the nozzle as necessary;
  • the surface along the walls and corners are processed using a grinder;
  • grinding with an abrasive or sandpaper (if the parquet is very old, then at least two passes will be required);
  • vacuum the floor, remove dust and debris;
  • apply putty;
  • grind again;
  • vacuum and apply parquet varnish;
  • polishing after drying the varnish and finishing varnishing.

ATTENTION! When working with the machine, you can not stop for a long time in one place - holes will appear.

Thus, it is possible to choose a convenient way to carry out scouring work to update the flooring of wood and complete all the steps yourself. The result will be a flat and clean surface, while it is much cheaper than completely changing the flooring in the room.
