How to wash the mounting foam from the laminate

Foam that gets on the laminate is a problem that you can encounter quite often, you just have to start repairs or perform some kind of construction manipulation in the house. How can one cope with such a "nuisance"?

Installation contamination on the laminate

Polyurethane foam, in its structure, is a chemical compound that is pushed out of the container using compressed air and hardens, expands when it comes into contact with the liquid. Enough moisture, which is always present in the air surrounding us, and chemical processes will begin their action.

To avoid accidentally hitting it on the floor (accidentally “tearing out” an excessively large amount of tank capacity on the floor), you can play it safe: you need to take the bottle and just release the contents in a plastic bag a little, and then dispose of it. Such actions will help to understand the internal pressure in the cylinder and will allow better control of the flow of foam formation. Also, this can save you from a sharp “tearing out” of the container from the cylinder - the foaming will be uniform and controlled.

IMPORTANT! You should not leave the mounting foam on the laminate, even after the repair is completed or even if it does not bother anyone at first glance.

Pets and children can eat it or forget it access to oxygen in the body - it is worth cleaning children and animals during installation and repair work! A reminder that this is a highly flammable building material will not be amiss - remember this.

How to wash the foam without harm to the coating?

If she, after a preventive warning, got on the flooring, household chemicals will come to the rescue.

In each hardware store you can purchase special (commercial) household products that can quickly remove completely “pollution” from the laminate and similar floor coverings.

It is worth considering that household chemicals can harm the laminate. Before buying, be sure to check with the seller - consultant about the "aggressiveness" of this chemical solvent for the laminate, its level of safety for the environment and health.

REFERENCE! Good household chemicals will allow you to clean the foam in any of its conditions: with complete solidification and with liquid, not frozen, sticky form.

Handy tools can also come in handy. First of all, it is worth securing the "emergency" place, and not letting anyone in to it.

Watering foam concrete is not a good idea. Water will only contribute to chemical expansion processes and will contribute to the formation of carbon dioxide (expander).

“Raw” foam can be scraped off with a spatula or a tea (tablespoon) spoon, on which a plastic bag is put on top. Residues can already be removed using the cured reagent.

Hardened - you can try to cut it off with a clerical knife or a blade (make sure that it damages the laminate coating, use safety rules when working with sharp objects), and treat the place of cut with simple vegetable oil and rub until the residue disappears completely. You can rub it with a “soft” spatula or a hard part of the kitchen sponge for washing dishes.

The remaining "fat" from the vegetable oil can be washed with simple soapy water.

How not to spoil the laminate?

In order not to spoil the laminate, it is enough just to adhere to the elementary tips and safety rules that were already mentioned earlier.
Recall them again:

  • Use the knife more carefully;
  • With great care, choose household chemicals to clean the laminate.

Knowing these simple rules, you can save the pleasant appearance of your laminate and not be afraid to stain it with foam!
