Condensate in the refrigerator

External signs of condensation in the refrigerator. If water appeared in the refrigerator under the drawers for storing vegetables and after wiping it appears again, this is clear evidence of some kind of equipment malfunction. In addition to this picture, you can see the ice formed near the drainage hole. And smell it.

In general, the presence of moisture inside the refrigerator is only possible on the rear wall, and only if the refrigerator has a drip defrosting system. The "crying wall" in other models is a symptom of a possible breakdown. ATIt is possible precisely because the cause of condensation can be quite harmless, it is enough to reveal it.

Condensation inside the refrigerator is a problem for many older models. Freezing, drops create impressive layers of hoarfrost and frost on the surfaces of the device, especially at the location of the freezer. Such a snow cap can significantly reduce the volume of the working space, which in the future can lead to serious damage. In addition, frequent defrosting can tire the owner of the refrigeration equipment.

What is the danger of condensation in the refrigerator?

Excess water in the cells has a harmful effect on food. Under such conditions, a favorable environment is formed for the reproduction of microorganisms and the formation of mold. Therefore, it is important to be able to distinguish when condensate is the result of normal processes inside the equipment, and when the result of a malfunction.

Possible causes of condensation in the refrigerator

Violations of the rules for the operation of refrigerators

Among the most common violations are the following:

  • Storage of liquid products without the use of lids. Vapors can cause excess moisture in the chambers.
  • Placement and storage of foods with high temperature. Thus, an additional surface appears on which condensate forms due to the temperature difference.
  • Loose fit of the door due to its skew or deformation of the sealing gum. Long holding the door open. The increased operation of the compressor, trying to cope with the warm air coming from the room, leads to the formation of ice.

Clogged drainage elements

If clogging occurs, water returns to the chamber. It accumulates at the bottom, evaporates during the defrost cycle and settles on the surfaces in the form of drops. The blockage may be in the drainage hole or in the drainage pipe. If the first cleaning did not bring results, then most likely the problem lies in the handset.

Important! If you do not pay attention to the blockage of the drainage hole for a long time, freezing of the evaporator and, as a result, loss of productivity of the entire refrigerator can occur.

Imperfection of the tightness of the refrigerator

The door should fit snugly against the cabinet. Thanks to this, the equipment will be provided with reliable sealing. To prevent the entry of warm air from the outside, only high-quality sealing gum, which is located around the perimeter of the sash, can be used. If the sealant has distortions, gaps, traces of damage, proper tightness will be necessarily broken.

How to independently eliminate the appearance of condensation in the refrigerator

When it comes to violations of the rules for the use of refrigeration equipment, the formation of condensate is temporary. It is easy to get rid of a problem by eliminating a specific cause. That is why manufacturers recommend carefully reading the instruction manual, which is always included with the specific model of the refrigerator.

If the problem is related to clogging, then the following must be done:

  • clean the drainage hole using a special brush or any improvised means (toothpick, match, etc.);
  • clean the tube with a thin wire 20-30 cm long.

If the reason lies in the violation of the tightness of the chamber, then you need to check whether the door itself hangs correctly. It is possible that distortion has formed during operation. Using appropriate tools, the door is brought to the desired position. If the matter is in the seal, then first check its position in the channel (groove). If it comes out of the recess with a hairdryer, the element easily returns to its place. In case of a defect, the rubber seal must be replaced.
