Optical resolution is one of the most indicative criteria used to evaluate the quality of a scanner. This parameter shows the number of recognizable points of an entire image area. This indicator indicates the maximum allowable number of points that the scanning device can recognize from the area of ​​the printed page.

All electronic files and printed documents consist of many small dots (pixels), the uniformity of color distribution on the surface of the screen or paper sheet depends on their number, depending on the type of data presentation. Each pixel carries an encoding with information about one color or its hue. Therefore, the more pixels used for encoding are located on the sheet, the brighter and more saturated the display of a document or photograph will be.

  2. Another measurement option is spi (samples per inch) - this is the number of samples that the scanner can make when working with a printed page. In this case, information is given on how many times the technician views the image located on one inch. For example, with 300 readout sensors on one inch, the resolution would be 300 spi. Such a criterion is more informative.

Important! When choosing a scanner with an indication of resolution in dpi format, you should pay attention to the first number, it is it that shows the ability to scan data.

This concept is a general term for optical and interpolation resolution. Together, they show the maximum number of points that a device can recognize and encode for transfer to the matrix. The higher these indicators, the better the final image will be formed.
