How to adjust the color on the TV

The main task of the TV is to provide information in the correct form, while eliminating the distortion of the original image. Video files are created based on the standards of the film industry, formed in order to convey the correct picture to the user. To display pictures on TVs, there are standards that describe the properties of video signals, as well as image parameters. Before the advent of high definition television broadcasting (HD, FullHD), PAL, NTSC, and HDTV standards were used. Today, REC709 is the most relevant standard.

Manufacturers of modern TVs are trying to present their models in a more favorable light. They give more brightness to certain shades, for greater attractiveness, not observing existing standards.

The most correct method for adjusting the color of an image is hardware calibration. It is as follows:

  • the screen transmits test (reference) pictures;
  • measurements of the displayed image are made;
  • Parameters are adjusted to indicators close to the standard.

REFERENCE! Hardware calibration is time-consuming, requires special equipment, as well as certain knowledge.

You can adjust the color yourself. To do this, you must select the correct image mode, in most cases - this is the "Cinema" or "Cinema" mode. It lacks overestimated brightness parameters that reduce eye strain.

Important for the correct color is the color temperature parameter. The indicator of which should correspond to a source of daylight or half-day white light of 6500 K. As a rule, the Warm mode is the closest to this value. Also, on the TV, it is necessary to turn off automatic parameters such as dynamic backlight, contrast, light sensor and power saving mode.

It is also necessary to adjust the color / color parameter, which is responsible for the saturation of the color palette, as well as for the overall brightness. Without special equipment, this parameter is almost impossible to configure, so it is usually set to average. Also, the saturation of colors can be adjusted on a high-quality picture with objects of nature with a large number of shades of green. It is to green that a person’s vision is more sensitive. Color adjustment is carried out so that the image becomes as realistic as possible. Face tint in high-quality photos can also serve as an assistant in the setup.

If necessary, you can correctly adjust the contrast, i.e., correctly adjust the white level in the image. For LCD / Led TVs, this parameter may have the following name: "Backlight Brightness", "Backlight Contrast". The setting is as follows:

  1. Set the maximum contrast value.
  2. Open a window with a white level (100IRE).
  3. Adjust the contrast to an image pleasing to the eye.

REFERENCE! Contrast adjustment must be done in the dark.

It is not recommended to set the maximum value of contrast, since this will lead to excessive eye strain.

What are the correct image options

The general parameters for the correct display are:

  1. The color temperature should be 6500K.
  2. Gamma correction, i.e., preventing the distortion of the brightness of the black and white component of the color image. The recommended value is 2.22, for a darkened room 2.4.
  3. Color must comply with REC709.

The above recommendations will help you independently adjust the color rendering of the TV receiver.
