What is the difference between a carpet and a carpet

Choosing the type of flooring is one of the most responsible decisions for those who want to focus on comfort. After all, it can be functional, not distracting attention from the rest of the situation in the house, or vice versa, become that very bright accent around which the rest of the design is built. That is why you should be aware of the basic and key differences between carpet and carpet.

Carpet

This type of flooring has a long and rich history. All carpets are valued for their high aesthetic qualities, which is a consequence of the original purpose - decor. Their operational characteristics largely depend on which variety a particular canvas belongs to. The following options are distinguished:

  • palace - lint-free, with a low level of thermal insulation and sound absorption, two-sided;
  • classic pile - often double-sided, in most cases made by hand from natural materials;
  • industrial - mainly one-sided, wear-resistant, well insulates sound and heat, can be made using natural materials, but synthetics are more often used.

A characteristic feature of all carpets is their limited size and a clear pattern, which also indicates the borders of the canvas. Handwork is characterized by high aesthetic properties, authenticity and originality. Industrial in this regard are slightly inferior, but their cost is several times lower.

If we are talking about durability and wear resistance, then almost any carpet (with the exception of the cheapest), with proper care, can last from 30-40 to 90 years. The duration of operation largely depends on the tested loads, the timeliness of cleaning and ventilation.

Carpet

The primary task of this coating is to ensure the proper level of thermal insulation and sound absorption. A characteristic feature of the carpet is its large size: it can reach a width of 5 meters, the length is unlimited. In view of the foregoing, the absence of an accented drawing, which often consists of repeating, randomly placed figures, turns out to be quite logical. This property reduces the aesthetic qualities of the carpet, but it is an indisputable advantage for those who decide to lay a soft canvas over the entire area of the room.

The wear resistance of this coating is determined by the speed of knocking down the pile and its strong pollution during intensive passage. A quality carpet is able to last from 5 to 20 years, cheap - no more than 2-3. These 2 groups can be distinguished by the density of the pile: the more bristles per cm2, the less and slower the carpet will be “trampled down”. As for the resistance to dirt, now the most popular are cloths made of synthetic fibers with increased resistance to pollution. Natural materials are practically not used due to the economic inappropriateness of the use of wool and the rapid contamination of other options.

Difference from user point of view

The carpet occupies a limited area and requires the presence of a "finishing" floor underneath. It costs more than analogues. But it can be removed, cleaned and dried at any time if necessary. And this canvas is more beautiful and allows you to place accents of comfort in the interior.

The carpet is distinguished by the fact that it can be laid directly on a concrete screed, covering the entire area of the room. It is cheaper, easier to clean and serves as a neutral background in the room. But its dimensions become a serious obstacle if it is necessary to ventilate or dry the coating, which complicates the maintenance of it and reduces the overall service life.

It is theoretically possible to use a carpet as a carpet, however, it is worth noting that without fixing, the canvas will soon begin to deform, curl up and the edges to tear apart.
