The gas boiler does not turn on

Gas boilers are the most economical, simple to install and operate. It is for these reasons that the heat generators that are used in heating systems. But, like any technical equipment, boilers sometimes break, and the most common among their failures are burner attenuation. To deal with the causes of the problems, you need to become more familiar with them.

Why the gas boiler does not turn on: the main reasons

Gas-fired heating equipment can be of different models:

• parapet;
• chimneys having an open type combustion chamber;
• turbocharged.

Equipment failure occurs for several reasons.

If the gas boiler decays, there may be insufficient gas pressure in the pipes due to a malfunction in the distribution network. More often the pressure drops if the meter is defective. There is no gas flow through it. A failure is signaled by sounds uncharacteristic for this part, as well as a significantly low pressure inside the boiler.

Modern units are usually equipped with displays, which display the error code determined by the self-diagnosis system, for example, in the models "Valliant", "Baksi", "Ferroli". If there is no message on the display with an error code message, you will have to look for a breakdown yourself.

The main of the failures of gas equipment:

• the boiler does not turn on or off;
• the flame in the burner goes out;
• temperature is not gaining.

Reasons why the boiler does not turn on

If the heating equipment does not light up at all, there are such factors as reasons:

• the ignition system is out of order;
• gas supply is stopped or the valve on the pipe supplying it is closed;
• too low or too high gas pressure inside the pipe;
• burner nozzle clogged.

If it lights up not the first time

Failures of the gas heating unit, in the case of which they light up not cut off, cause various factors. External:

• too low gas pressure in the main pipeline;
• a problem with the functioning of the chimney;
• voltage fluctuations;
• a draft or low temperature inside the building where the boiler stands.

The internal ones include the failure of the electronics, pump, heat exchanger.

If the unit goes out, and then does not immediately light up, the cause of this phenomenon may be a violation of ventilation in the room. This often happens with heating appliances Proterm, Navien, etc., in which the combustion chamber is open. They take combustion air from the room.

Other malfunctions

When the pressure drops in the line, the double-circuit devices "AOGV" or "Vailant", for example, turn off. This happens with fluctuations in fuel supply. If the igniter is not adjusted correctly, the protection is triggered, the boiler stops working.

To identify other malfunctions, knowledge of the device device that requires repair is required. Each model has its own distinctive features. But more often, all brands break nodes, sensors or circulation pumps. If such a pump fails, the burner will not turn on, and the boiler will not be able to work for the supply of hot water and heating. It happens that the pump is buzzing, but there is no work. It is possible he is stuck.

Sometimes throughout the house you can hear how loud and strained the boiler works. This is often caused by a large amount of scale in the heat exchanger. This factor often leads to overheating of the heat exchanger.

Nozzles can also make a whistle. This happens when the boiler is ignited. A whistle signals the presence of air in the gas pipeline. To eliminate the whistle, it is enough to blow air.

If water or condensation gets on the main board, irreparable damage occurs inside it. If moisture has become the cause, the board shows stains.

Attention! For long-term service of gas equipment, the board must be protected from water leakage and steam ingress.

How to solve a similar problem

Modern heating equipment that runs on gas fuel is equipped with a special control board with an information display or indicators. If there is no indication, check whether power is supplied to this control panel. As a rule, the boiler is connected to the network through a separate channel, therefore it must be checked first of all: is it disconnected. You can verify this with a multimeter: the voltage on it should be 220V in the place where it is connected to the board. If there is no voltage, you need to localize the problem. Sometimes it’s enough to insert a pulled plug into the socket.

There is no voltage to the panel due to failure of the fuses.

If the device does not turn on due to poor ventilation, you must:

• organize good ventilation;
• install valves on window packages;
• open the window in the room with the boiler to ensure air flow

Important! Before turning on the boiler, you need to check whether there is draft inside the chamber. For this purpose, light a match, bring it to the window or branch of the chimney. If draft is present, the flame will deviate towards air movement. And if it is absent, the flame of the match will be even.

If the device does not turn on the first time, you need to check the pipes for gas leaks, for which they are lubricated with a soapy foam layer. In places where there is a leak, bubbles will appear. In this case, it is necessary to close the valves, open the window and call the emergency service of gas workers.

It should be remembered! It is unacceptable to look for a gas leak by inspecting the pipe with an open flame (matches, lighter). Necessarily necessary soap solution.

If the meter fails, its readings do not change, noise is heard. Do not eliminate such a malfunction on your own. Here you need a master.

Problems with malfunctioning traction leading to automatic shutdown of equipment. To prevent such phenomena from occurring, installation requires taking into account the requirements for the standard height of the chimney: it must be at least 50 cm above the ridge and at a distance on the roof of more than 1.5 m from it. Compliance with these conditions will help to avoid problems with traction.

Gas equipment is not equipped with a system that enhances draft, so in the event of weak draft or lack thereof, debris gets into the chimney.

If the pump is stuck, the boiler must be stopped and the problem breakdown eliminated.

If the attempt to turn on the boiler occurs after a long shutdown, antifreeze can be used as a coolant. He doesn’t freeze if the temperature is too low. This will allow you to start the system after downtime.

In all boilers where the combustion chamber is closed (for example, in Buderus, Wolf and some other models), fans are installed. They are designed to divert combustion products. If you hear sounds signaling a violation of their work, diagnostics and element replacement in case of breakdown will help.

If the boiler turns off and does not turn on, it is necessary to check the burner nozzle for clogging. The part is cleaned of dirt, the photocell of the sensor is cleaned, and then the procedure for turning on the device is repeated. Diagnostics and replacement are also carried out in case of breakdown of the thermocouple, pressure sensors and traction.

The remote control is also checked, the batteries are replaced, the display is inspected. If the remote control does not work, the controller is diagnosed.

Sometimes when starting up gas equipment its operation (noise) is not audible and the smell of gas is felt, although the other devices (stove or gas column) function normally, and the temperature outside is + 10 degrees Celsius outside. The cause may be a clogged igniter, because an insufficient amount of gas passes through the nozzle.

There are problems with turning on the heating if the quality of the gas supplied to the boiler is extremely low.

If the noise caused scale, the boiler is set to maximum heating. If the noise is amplified, the cause is precisely in scale. Then it is necessary to add a chemical dissolving the scale to the heat exchanger and rinse it.
