How a clothes dryer works

Not every apartment can afford to dry a lot of wet textiles in its area: somewhere there is not enough ventilation, somewhere just free space. An excellent way out of this situation is a machine for drying clothes.

Almost all varieties of electric dryers perform several drying functions:

  • by time (runs for a specific time selected by the user);
  • by residual moisture level (the device will automatically turn off when the specified percentage of humidity is reached);
  • according to the type of fabric (allows you to comply with the operating conditions of the fabric, selecting the mode according to the degree of severity of the effect);
  • by type of clothing (contributes to the maximum drying of the same type of product, given their features).

Most machines include the first two in their basic functionality, the presence of other capabilities directly affects the high cost of the device. Before buying a tumble dryer, you should think carefully about what tasks it will perform in your home, and then proceed to the selection of models.

The principle of operation of the electric clothes dryer depends on its type. Usually they are divided into:

  • built-in washing machine (low power);
  • drum;
  • cabinets.

Everyone has similar aspects, but there are also many differences - this affects their operation.

Drum

Electric drum dryers are now the most popular on the market. They are relatively compact, moderate in price and have good functionality. In turn, they are separated by the method of moisture removal:

  • ventilation;
  • with heat pump;
  • condensation (predecessor of the previous type).

Air is transferred to the drum through pile filters, which serves to clean it, to the heating element. After the temperature rises to 60-70 degrees Celsius, the fan moves the air masses into the laundry tank. From there, after evaporation, it enters the heat exchanger, where moisture is removed from it. At the end of this procedure, it is again redirected to the heater for subsequent circulation.

Between the types of drum electric dryers there are also some differences in the principle of operation, therefore, we will consider each separately.

Ventilation

This type of dryer was one of the very first, so now almost all models have already been discontinued. From other drum ventilation differs in simplicity of design.

During operation, moisture enters the ventilation system of the room through a flexible hose, which means additional steps during installation. The latter was the reason for the loss of popularity of ventilation machines for drying.

Condensation

One of the most practical options for automatic drying of linen. They are not demanding on the installation site, since the moisture accumulated during operation enters a special compartment for condensate.

Important: The condensate collection tank must be emptied periodically.

Some models are additionally equipped with a drainage system, which transfers the accumulated liquid directly into the sewer.

With heat pump

This type of tumble dryer is additionally equipped with a cooler circuit. Intensive temperature reduction due to this circuit contributes to the most rapid condensation of moisture, which significantly reduces the operating time of the device required for complete drying of the laundry.

Important: Do not install a dryer with a heat pump between the washing machine and the cabinet, as this will lead to overheating of the device.

Drying cabinet

A cabinet is the most cumbersome option among electric dryers. However, it has its own advantage. Outwardly, it really is a closet where things are hung on hangers or stacked in piles on shelves. It is in this form that the laundry is dried, which allows in most cases to avoid ironing.

The car is distinguished from the usual piece of furniture by the presence of a heating element and a fan that moves the air masses inside the cabinet.

The air temperature inside rises due to the heater. The fan, in turn, redirects hot air to wet laundry. From this, moisture evaporates and comes out, so cabinets should be installed in well-ventilated rooms.

Such electric dryers are the most inexpensive in price, but buyers are often scared off by their dimensions.

The procedure for working with tumble dryers is very simple and differs slightly in the available functionality. Basically, the sequence of work is the following list of actions:

  1. Put things in the dryer. It should be noted that they should be wet, not wet, that is, before loading, they should be wrung out or driven through the spin mode in the washing machine.
  2. Select a program from available. Depending on the model, decide what is convenient for you: drying according to a given time or in accordance with any criterion (type of fabric, clothing).
  3. Upon completion of the appliance, evaluate the level of humidity of things. If it does not suit you, then run the program again (not earlier than 40 minutes after the previous cycle). If satisfactory, remove items from the electric dryer.
  4. Clean the fluff filters. Ignoring this item will lead to poor air intake and, as a result, poor-quality drying.
  5. If there is no drainage system, empty the condensate tank.

Benefits

From the classical drying of linen throughout the house or on the balcony of the electric dryer there are a number of advantages:

  1. accelerated process;
  2. the ability to stop at the required humidity level, which is convenient for subsequent ironing of some materials;
  3. moisture evaporation helps to smooth simple products during the operation of the device;
  4. An abundance of modes allows you to take into account the requirements for any fabric or type of clothing.

Dryers are not without their drawbacks, however, in most cases they include the high cost and the need to allocate a special place, which is not connected with the main functionality of the device.
