Tile in the corner: hiding the joints

During the finishing of the walls with tiles, there is often a problem of laying the tiles in the corners. This is especially true for the bathroom, since it is here that these areas are a mandatory attribute of the interior. To make an even angle, various methods are used. Certain ones will require some skills and a special tool, some even beginners can successfully implement.

How to lay tiles in the corners: basic rules

There are several options for connecting tile:

  1. Perpendicular connection. The simplest way to solve a problem is a direct connection. In this case, laying the tile at 90 degrees, that is, one cut remains open, and the second is masked under the top element. So it is possible to close any angle with minimal effort. If tile trimming is required, it is best to install the cut from the bottom. The disadvantage of this method is the seam when connecting. Subsequently, it is masked with a grout, but still it is visible on the surface.
  2. Trims. The most popular option is probably the installation of special elements - trim. This is a plastic profile that forms the necessary direction. For external corners applied L-shaped styling. The inner corner has the shape of an arc. Sometimes narrow convex trim is used.
  3. Trimming. The basis of this method - trimming the edges of the plate. It is performed so that the fragments can be connected to each other at 45 degrees.

Getting rid of the joints: step by step

Before you lay the tile, you need to make its layout. The quality of the work done depends on how correctly this process is performed. Before the layout, make measurements of the room, then perform a visual inspection, assessing the surface of the walls, where the tile will be glued.

If required, then perform additional surface preparation. During the layout you need to inspect all the walls to select the method of installation. If the corner is invisible because of the furniture, then the option of laying in this place will be the easiest.

In the inner corners

The simple combination of two rows of tile has many advantages. To begin with, the corner so made looks as organic as possible, especially in small bathrooms. Also, this installation option does not require additional elements, which significantly increases the cost of veneering.

Naturally, this method has drawbacks. This is a construction experience, as the main condition, and a high probability of the appearance of a crack at the junction due to the tendency of ceramics to narrow and increase. Moreover, this problem is relevant during the finishing of drywall, but on brick surfaces it almost does not occur.

Prevention of cracking is:

  • silicone stitching;
  • correct calculation of joints.

Attention! Facing the inner corner without installing the overhead angle is not allowed. As a result of this laying, a black slit will appear on the seam. You can get rid of it only with silicone. But to choose it exactly in color is almost impossible.

In the outer corners

Installing a decorative trim is done when one of the walls in the bathroom is fully tiled. After the height of the construction gun is applied sealant. The trim part is laid over the already glued tile with an equal part, and the element slot is free on the enclosing wall.

Subsequently, ceramics are laid on this wall, starting from the bottom, and the edge of the tile is inserted into the trim groove. The day after the completion of the work, the joint between the ceramics and the corner is overwritten. Trim is also installed in the joints, which are located in the horizontal plane.

Laying tile yourself is not an easy task, but it is quite possible even for beginners. The main requirement is a perfectly flat surface and the correct layout.
