The cooler does not work on the laptop

Personal computers and laptops are equipped with mini-fans, which are called coolers. The mechanical device is turned on when the system performs too complex and energy-intensive operations, because of which the architecture of the system unit is very hot. To avoid overheating, hot air is drawn out through ventilation. When problems arise with the operation of the internal fan, the laptop hardware shell is at risk.

The main reasons for the failure of the cooler

There are a number of reasons why the cooling system in a laptop stops working, or it does not work as it should. The list of the main ones:

  1. Excessive contamination of the rotating mechanism. The insides of personal computers and laptops are invariably filled with dust. Not only does a large amount of dust become electrified and may cause a microcircuit to fail, but it also physically clogs the fan blades.
  2. Damage to the fan mechanism. It may also happen that the blades in the cooling system broke down on their own. The forerunners of this are mechanical overloads of the laptop itself, shaking, strikes against the case.
  3. Failure of architectural elements responsible for the operation of the cooling system. The software or the chip responsible for turning on or turning off the cooler was damaged due to mechanical actions or activity of viruses in the system.
  4. Temperature sensor failure. Such a problem is much less common than the previous ones, but it can also affect the cooler. Sensors are installed on the processor, video card, or any board that pick up the rate of temperature rise on the parts. When the temperature rises above the allowed mark, the fan starts working until it is driven to an acceptable level. Due to the disruption of their operation, the cooler will turn on and off for no apparent reason.

How to solve problems

Ways to deal with problems for each of the failures:

  1. In the case of contamination, the problem part just needs to be cleaned. This is done with a screwdriver or a dust brush. How to get access to the cooler located inside the notebook is written below.
  2. If the fan itself was damaged (the blades cracked, or the rotational element stopped working), then you will have to purchase a new one. Such parts cost about a thousand rubles in technical stores, you just need to know the processor model and the size of the old cooler.
  3. If you find problems with system parameters (if the fan itself was normal and more or less clean), you need to download antivirus software and run a full scan of the laptop database for malicious software. If the virus check did not help, then you may have to change the entire motherboard. If possible, you need to try the fan on another board.
  4. Faults in temperature sensors are easy to verify. To do this, you need to download a special mini-program that displays various architectural parameters, including the temperature of the processor. If the temperature is different from the real picture, or its indicators "jump" under equal conditions - for example, there are no processes on the laptop, only the utility window is open, and the temperature rises sharply and rises - it means that the sensors are damaged. This can be corrected only by purchasing a new processor or by removing the old fan and installing a third-party for external cooling.

Clean the cooler by yourself

To clean or replace the cooler you need to disassemble the laptop. This should be done carefully, with the observance of step-by-step actions, so that you can repeat everything later. Disassembly instructions:

  1. Turn off the laptop completely and disconnect its power cord.
  2. Remove the battery from the bottom of the case. This is done with special clips holding the battery in the connected position.
  3. Now you need to flip the device (after closing it) and unscrew all the bot to which the bottom cover is attached. Bolts can be collected in a bottle cap or other container so that they are not lost.
  4. Now you need to disconnect the cover. Immediately below it is a hard disk and optical drive, they must be disconnected and put aside.
  5. After that you should disconnect the cable loops that block the path to the processor and video card. They must be fitted with fans attached to the bolts. To clean or replace, simply unscrew the fan and disconnect the wire.
  6. After completing all the manipulations you need to assemble the laptop by repeating all the actions in the reverse order.
